TALENT : MARY SULLIVAN

Mary Sullivan lives in Cedar Park Texas

I am excited by the ability to bring to paper any thought, dream or experience. Drawing allows me to translate emotions and experiences through my own language of line, shape and color.

In my formative years I had a significant interest in art and I spent a great deal of time drawing.

My dad built me a little white drawing table and my mother made sure to fill the house with poetry, art and music.

My childhood memories are of the many hours I spent with books, poetry and records.

I have very fond memories of Childcraft's Volume 1, Poems of Early Childhood 1954. I have the tattered and worn book right now on my desk.

The record Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella also has a very special place in my heart. I watched the television production religiously throughout my life and still listen to the music today.

I received a BFA in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin but I consider myself a self trained illustrator. I spent my entire college career in the lithography lab and in drawing classes. I absolutely do not like to paint.

My passion for drawing has resulted in a large collection of unique sketches and drawings. I have shown my work at galleries and coffee shops in Austin and Dallas.

In 2006, I began channeling all my energies into illustration for children.

If I could, I would spend the day wandering around the pond behind my house. Not sketching......just wandering. I thrive in nature. For me it is the door to my creative zone. I could never live in the city.

I have worked with Highlights for Children, Scholastic, Innovative Kids, School Zone, Oxford Press UK, Pearson and many many more .
